As a world leader in geo-technology, Guideline Geo’s ABEM instruments are the perfect partner for your geophysical equipment needs, providing resistivity, IP (induced polarization), electromagnetic and seismic equipment. ABEM has been a pioneer in the field of geophysical instruments and solutions since 1923 and provides complete, first choice, equipment around the globe for a wide range of applications.
We also offer support, training and rental options for all systems and equipment so you can focus completely on the execution of your project. We combine service and knowledge with world-leading geophysical solutions.
ABEM Methods
The ABEM product range covers resistivity & IP, TEM (transient electromagnetics) and seismic technologies.
Electrical resistivity methods send an electrical current into the ground and then map the resistance against that flow of current. This resistance is converted into resistivity, a property used to predict the composition, structure and/or strength of underlying materials. In IP, we record how the voltage in the ground reacts when the current is applied and removed, the so-called chargeability of the ground; this additional parameter provides further insights into the materials hidden beneath the surface.
TEM is used to obtain vertical resistivity soundings, via an inductive technique, where a transmitter loop induces a transient current within the subsurface and the receiver antenna(s) then measure the rate of change of the magnetic field associate with that current as it propagates through the ground.
Seismic methods record the movement of vibrations through the ground, where the speed and path give us information about the composition, structure, strength and/or stability of subsurface materials.
ABEM applications
The ABEM methods cover a wide range of applications and can provide effective solutions for:
- Bedrock detection and topography (resistivity, seismics, TEM)
- Mechanical parameters (seismics)
- Earthquake resilience studies (seismics)
- Fractures and fault zones (resistivity, seismics)
- Cavities (resitivity, seismics)
- Lithology or bedrock type (resistivity, IP, seismics)
|
- Soil types (resistivity, IP, TEM)
- Groundwater aquifers and contamination (resistivity, IP, TEM)
- Mineral and oil prospection (resistivity, IP, seismics, TEM)
- Waste and pollutant mapping (resistivity, IP, TEM)
- Asset monitoring such as dam seepage, aquifer discharge/recharge, etc. (resistivity, IP, TEM)
